Grind Size Reference Tool
Match grind coarseness to brewers with particle sizes and tactile descriptions.
Choose a recipe label, enter dose and elapsed time, and calculate beverage yield, brew ratio and flow rate. The page reports the numbers without declaring a shot fast, slow or balanced.
Tool
Espresso can be described through dry dose, beverage mass and elapsed time. Yield follows directly from yield = dose × ratio, and flow rate is simply yield ÷ time.
Those measurements are useful for repeatability, but flow rate has no universal balanced band. Coffee, basket geometry, preparation, water, pressure and machine behaviour all matter. Use a sensory record and controlled changes to decide what to adjust.
For home baristas dialling in a new bag on a domestic machine, for anyone moving between ristretto and lungo styles, and for milk-drink drinkers who need a consistent base shot. The flow-rate reading is also a practical way to diagnose a basket that has become blocked or a grinder that has drifted.
