About Us
Brew Bench began with a small frustration shared by almost everyone who brews specialty coffee at home. The information needed to brew well is scattered: a ratio table on one forum, a grind chart in a video description, a cupping form in a downloadable spreadsheet, a freshness rule of thumb in a roaster's newsletter. None of it lives in one place, and much of it disappears when a site shuts down or a link rots.
Our mission
We build practical, permanent tools for the daily reality of home coffee brewing. Every calculator on this site answers a question that comes up at the counter with a kettle in hand: how much coffee for two mugs, what temperature for this roast, why does the shot taste sour, is this bag still good. The goal is not to replace judgement but to remove arithmetic and guesswork so attention can stay on tasting.
Who we serve
Brew Bench is written for home coffee enthusiasts, entry-level home baristas and specialty coffee hobbyists. That means we assume genuine curiosity but not professional equipment. Tools work with a kitchen scale and a hand grinder as readily as with a refractometer and a temperature-controlled kettle, and every page explains the reasoning so the numbers can be adapted rather than simply obeyed.
How we build
- Local computation. All logic is implemented in plain browser JavaScript. Nothing you enter is transmitted, and the tools keep working without a connection once the page has loaded.
- Documented reasoning. Each tool explains its formula, standard or reference range and links to the relevant category in our Sources & Methodology library.
- Longevity by design. We avoid dependencies on third-party services that require keys, quotas or subscriptions, because a tool that stops working is worse than no tool at all.
- Honest limits. Coffee is a sensory craft. Our outputs are starting points and diagnostics, never verdicts that override your palate.
Our value proposition
One place, twenty-five tools, covering brewing calculation, sensory recording, method guidance and equipment reference. No account, no tracking, no paywall, and no feature that quietly stops working when an external service changes its terms. If a tool here saves you one wasted bag of good coffee, it has done its job.
